Daniel Volman is the Director of the African Security Research Project in Washington, DC, and a specialist on US national security policy toward Africa and African security issues.  He received his Ph.D. in African History from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1992.  He has been engaged in research and writing about African security for nearly fifty years and his work has been published in the Eurasia Review, the New York Times, the Journal of Modern African Studiers, Current History, the Review of African Political Economy, AllAfrica.Com and other news sites, and he has appeared on the Voice of America, the BBC, and al-Jazeera.

My mission is primarily to read and analyze the documents and data that the Pentagon and other executive agencies publish and put online and the hearings records and reports issued by the US Congress and the Congressional Research Service.  In my articles, all information is linked to accurate and reliable sources.  My work is intended provide readers with a better understanding of what the United States is actually thinking and doing about Africa.

The African Security Research Project is a one-person operation.  Like other scholar-activists in Washington, DC, I participate in numerous conferences and other events which assume that you work for an organization; so, I put African Security Research Project on the appropriate line in the registration form.  However, I would be very interested in collaborating with other scholars, professionals, and activists with an interest in these issues.  History shows that only social movements like the anti-Vietnam War movement and the anti-Apartheid movement in the United States can change American foreign policy.
